SKETCHBOOK

Although spend a lot of time doing digital drawings and lovely explosion, but I still like hand drawing more than others.

Traditional War II

The idea of this pattern comes from a subgroup of the Han Chinese people, Hakka (Mandarin: Kèjiā). They are commonly found in the southern Chinese provinces, such as Guangdong, Jiangxi, and Fujian in China. In Taiwan, Hakka people comprise about 20% of the population and are descended largely from Guangdong: they form the second largest ethnic group on the island. Taiwan's Hakka are concentrated in Hsinchu City and Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, and around Chungli in Taoyuan County, and Meinong in Kaohsiung County, and in Pingtung County, with smaller presences in Hualian and Taitung County. In recent decades many Hakka have moved to the largest metropolitan areas, including Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung.
Many people in Taiwan are of mixed Hoklo, Hakka, and formosan aboriginal heritage. Approximately half of the population of Hakka in Taiwan also speaks Taiwanese, and it is highly likely that many Taiwanese-speaking households were descendants of Hakka families in Taiwan who lost their language a few generations back because of the lack of practical environment.

Traditional War I

A Lovely Explosion

Matilda's new installation in work progress - A Lovely Explosion

[ Illustration Publication - EXPLOSION - Creative Brief]
The aim of this project is to explore new uses of illustration and free ideas from only using pencil on paper, take works to the real world, anything you can image that pushes the boundaries of the contemporary illustration story.

[ Explosion - A Lovely Explosion]
Media used: bubble wrap, ink, and paste
Name: A Lovely Explosion
Size: A0 (841 × 1189 mm)

In terms of reflecting to the main idea of this project to explore the boundary and idea of illustration, I tried to express ‘A Lovely Explosion’ via materials. The function of bubble wrap is protection by explosion of air bubbles, but the word ‘Explosion’ is a violent and destructive shattering or blowing apart of something. To show the contradiction of dangerous and protective, sweet –coloured inks were injected in to each bubble and constructed a hand grenade shape by water pixels; different colours also dissolve each other from time to time that present a slow and lovely explosion.

Four for a Boy

“TRI·FLE” |ˈtrīfəl| n.

1. Something of little importance or value.
2. A small amount; a jot.
3. A dessert typically consisting of plain or sponge cake soaked in sherry, rum, or brandy and topped with layers of jam or jelly, custard, and whipped cream.

‘NO ONE IS INTERESTING IN YOUR TRIFLES!’ a friend told me one day.
At that time, I was doing research about human cells, because to compare with the whole universe, my life is just tiny as a cell that we rarely really consider about it. It is a composite thing combined with a lot of small events, a cellular something, which cannot be seen easily.
After that, I was started to observe friends surround me, those ordinary events happen within daily life. That was how the stories began, combined with the quote:

One for sorrow,
Two for joy,
Three for a girl,
Four for a boy,
Five for silver,
Six for gold,
Seven for a secret never to be told.

Then drew stories on Japanese calligraphic paper scroll as a continuous drawing. Each story has its own style, material and stand by itself, but when you see the whole scroll, they thus become a whole, associated with many individual stories, as the same with the research I did about human cells. The scroll format also presents a ‘secret’ atmosphere, it is extremely private, to open it slightly then able to see next image, like traditional Chinese painting.

This is the four story. (but I actually thought to link three and four stories together before) I would like to play around with strange typeface :)

Small Book Art -Touch the poem in a foreign city

A Braille book - it is functional! These dots are cut out by daily newspaper, so they looked very colourful. It represents not only read the actually text in newspaper, you can 'read' a poem in another way.

A short story

He asked for SEX.
She said NO.
He slammed the door and left.

well.. it is a real story (= _=b)

One for Sorrow - A Pigeon Girl

Because I draw on a scroll of Japanese rice paper, the format of this story is continuous drawing.

[Left: page2]
The owner is a successful old man, who is running pigeon racing business.
[right: page3]
He provides her a beautiful cage, luxury food, but he is always too busy with his pigeon racing business.

Seven for a secret never to be told - Cycle town

1/4 image of the seven story. There is a cycle town, carried by a giant sea turtle, every road called psychopath, everyone live in mental house, if you follow the roads, you can find the biggest secret in cycle town.

One for Sorrow - A Pigeon Girl

The book pages, eight pages, French folding. Draw on print.

One for Sorrow - A Pigeon Girl (daytime)

A Pigeon Girl is the first story of my project, it is a sad story. This is the A1 poster for the book.
